Hunter Valley

There is this assumption that you have to be a bit of a wine aficionado to even venture out to Hunter Valley.

Honestly I don't think that's true at all! Hunter Valley is renowned for it's numerous wineries, however true to it's name, it's the "Valley" and the wineries together that make this place so scenic and beautiful.

While NSW is known for it's gorgeous coastal getaways, Hunter Valley is one of the more beautiful inland destinations. It's only a 2 hour drive away, most of it along a fairly scenic route (The Hawkesbury river) and makes for a perfect weekend getaway.

Noel and I finally made a trip down to Hunter over the Queen's birthday long weekend, and wished we'd done this trip sooner!

Unknown to most, Australia's largest display garden is also located in Hunter Valley. The Hunter Valley Gardens host a number of public events throughout the year and June is the Food and Wine month.

A number of international artists perform at Hunter Valley as well.
This is something Noel and I hope to do as well in the near future, probably Andre Rieu live!

We stayed at the Leisure Inn in Polkobin. It's very centrally located and quite reasonable when you compare prices with some of the other hotels in the vicinity. Here you get individual cottages all set around a little lake (Beautiful!)

Tips

Stop over at the Information center as you enter HV and pick up a map (pretty good guide) of all the main wineries in the region.

Suggested Wineries/Breweries
